Biden administration appeals to the US court:Consider India's application for the extradition of Tahawwur Rana; Rana was involved in the conspiracy of Mumbai attack

The Biden administration has urged the US Federal Court to consider India's application for the extradition of Tahawwur Rana of Pakistani origin. Tahawwur Rana has been the main accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack plot. US District Court Judge Jacqueline Chuljian will hear the extradition case on April 22 in Los Angeles.

Rana's lawyer opposed extradition.
US Assistant Attorney John J. Luljian said before a federal US court in Los Angeles, India has all the extradition criteria for its case against Rana, a Mumbai terrorist attack accused. On 4 February, his extradition was also opposed by Rana's lawyer. Luljian submitted his 61 pages to the court on Monday, stating, "The United States respectfully requests that after April 22, 2021, the court move India's extradition appeal on Rana.

Rana was arrested in America:
Tahawwur Rana (59), who was involved in the conspiracy of Mumbai terror attacks, was arrested in Los Angeles, USA. He was aged 14 in Chicago, but was released before the completion of the sentence on the grounds of being corona positive and deteriorating health. He was arrested again in June 2020, as India had appealed for his extradition. According to US court documents, Rana's extradition has been premised on murder and involvement in the conspiracy to murder. Because, in America, one cannot be convicted twice for the same crime.

India had issued a warrant
against Rana in 2018.A special court of the National Investigation Agency of India had also issued an arrest warrant against Rana in August 2018. According to the lawyers, Rana was involved in the conspiracy of the Mumbai attack along with his childhood friend David Coleman Headley. A conspiracy was hatched in Pakistan between 2006 and 2008, with Rana helping Lashkar-e-Taiba.

166 people were killed in 26/11 terror attacks. On
26 November 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists carried out attacks in Mumbai. 166 people were killed and 300 were injured in them. Some American citizens were also among those who died. In the encounter, the police killed 9 terrorists and arrested Ajmal Kasab. He was hanged in 2012.
